EV Charger Installation

Level 2 home charging on a dedicated circuit, sized from your panel's real capacity.

How this work is approached

A Level 2 charger is not a plug-in accessory - it is a 240 V load that runs for hours at a time, which makes it a load calculation and panel question as much as a wiring question. That calculation is the first step, not an afterthought.

Once the available capacity is known, the circuit, breaker, disconnect and mounting location are planned together, so the cable ends where the car actually parks, and the charger is on a circuit that can be added to later.

What this covers

  • Level 2 (240 V) home charger circuits, hardwired or NEMA 14-50
  • Load calculation and panel capacity review before the work is ordered
  • Garage, carport and exterior wall charger mounting
  • Dedicated breaker and properly sized conductors for continuous load
  • Charger replacement or relocating an existing unit
  • Second charger circuits where two vehicles are charged at home
  • Adding the required protection and disconnect for the installation

Good to know

  • Have the charger model and its amperage rating handy, or send it with your request. It decides the circuit size.
  • If your panel does not have capacity, you get the options rather than a workaround: a service upgrade, a subpanel, or a managed charging solution where one is appropriate.
