Safety Devices & Code Corrections
GFCI and AFCI protection, surge protection and the corrections that come up on an inspection report.
How this work is approached
Safety devices are inexpensive compared with what they prevent, and the places they belong are well defined: kitchens, bathrooms, garages, outdoors and anywhere water and electricity share a room. Older homes frequently have full circuits where no protection was ever installed.
Inspection reports are worked through item by item. Each item gets an explanation of what it protects against and what the correction involves, so a repair list stops looking like a pile of jargon.
What this covers
- GFCI protection for kitchens, bathrooms, garages, basements and exterior outlets
- AFCI breakers and receptacles for living areas and bedrooms
- Whole-home surge protection at the panel
- Interconnected smoke and carbon monoxide alarm wiring where applicable
- Grounding and bonding corrections for older systems
- Outstanding items from a home inspection report
- Receptacle and device upgrades to tamper-resistant or weather-resistant types
Good to know
- Send the inspection report pages with your request if you have them - most of the electrical items can be scoped from the wording.
- Not every item on a report is urgent. Anything quoted is grouped into what should be done now and what can wait.
